(Goettl’s Tell All Secrets to Staying Energy Efficient This Summer)
Modern technology enables greater energy efficiency than what used to be possible. Goettl reveals to The Bro Talk one great way to improve your home’s energy efficiency, and that’s to replace your old-fashioned manual thermostat with a programmable smart thermostat.
After all, where your thermostat is set is of major importance in saving money while cooling your home. However, adjusting your house’s thermostat by hand is inconvenient and, in many cases, even impossible. However, with a programmable thermostat you can set it to let your house get hot during the day while you’re at work, but then start the cooling process an hour or so before you arrive home. Some of those thermostat can be programmed using an app on your smart phone. So if you’re tied up by for an hour by rush hour traffic or stop at a restaurant for dinner, you can re-program the thermostat. And some of these thermostats can actually detect when nobody is in the house, so they will let the house get warm when nobody is inside to suffer.
Keep your air conditioner in the shade. Air exposed to direct sunlight is a lot harder to cool than air in a shaded area. Therefore, use a tree or bush to shade your air conditioner. But keep it at least two feet away from the unit.
