Clinical Pathways: A New Approach to Patient Care at Cancer Treatment Centers of America

Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) has joined forces with NantHealth and Allscripts to create a custom technical solution called Clinical Pathways that will help inform physicians of cancer treatment options without disturbing the physician’s clinical workflow.
The technical solution enables eviti®, a clinical decision support solution by NantHealth, access to clinical workflows in the Allscripts Sunrise electronic health record (EHR). The program was created with input from oncologists across the country and possess a complete collection of the latest cancer care data that physicians use to treat their patients.
Clinical Pathways will allow for greater transparency when it comes to the selections of recommended therapy along with the delivery of care to patients. This will help improve the quality of care and will be more efficient by creating a continuation of care. Clinical Pathways will facilitate the process of communication between physicians and patients and allow them to compare and discuss treatment options based on the patient’s specific diagnosis. It will also help speed up the insurance approval for the recommended treatments.
The headquarters of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), which was recently renamed Cancer Treatment Centers of America Global, Inc., is located in Boca Raton, Florida, after moving there in 2015 from Schaumburg, Illinois. It is a national, for-profit network of five hospitals that serves cancer patients throughout the United States.
Cancer Treatment of America takes an aggressive approach to combatting cancer. Their philosophy is to treat the whole person, not just the cancer. They determine what type of cancer you have then send you to one of five of their hospitals that specializes in that specific cancer so you get the best treatment possible. Treatments include a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation to treat each patient’s cancer while helping to manage the side effects of associated with treatment such as pain, fatigue, nausea, and even the depression and anxiety that go along with the battle against cancer.
