NuoDB is a Cambridge, Massachusetts based technological company, which was established in 2008 as NimbusDB, and has been used by several companies, including UAE Exchange, Alfa Systems, Kodiak and Dassault Systemes. Barry S. Morris and Jim Starkey were the founders of the company, with Barry S. Morris taking up the position as the chief executive officer in the company’s early history. NuoDB invented the elastically scalable database, made by Jim Starkey, and they initially received $12 million venture capital back in 2012. Because of their innovation in the field of technology, the company has been placed in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant, and has recognized their contribution for the operational database management system. Several magazines have also recognized NuoDB, highlighting the company’s success because of their invention. In the present, the company already has $59.7 million in funding, and the previous chief executive officer Barry S. Morris has been promoted to executive chairman, with Bob Walmsley taking up his earlier position.
NuoDB’s technology can be described as an elastic SQL database that is used for cloud based applications, which has an object architecture that can be distributed. In case of a new server being added to a network or system to scale out a database, what this technology does is to make the database run faster, making greater than a million transactions per second. The program is available in three versions – free, professional, and enterprise.
