Sujit Choudhry’s Constitutional Mission

Sujit Choudhry is the founding director of the Center for Constitution Transitions which is an organization that develops research and strategies for constitution building working with NGOs and think tanks in over 25 countries. The Center for Constitution Transitions of incomplete knowledge when it comes to writing new and amending constitutions for emerging democracies. This is what led to Sujit Choudhry founding the Center for Constitution Transitions. The current political climate has led to a resurgence in interest of comparative constitutional systems. Sujit Choudhry believes the liberal democratic constitutionalism is having it’s worst crisis in the post-war era. He sees what is currently going on in America as exactly what we have seen in other liberal democracies under stress. Choudhry’s expertise in comparative constitutional law gives him real insight into these patterns.

A key to how Americans should change their outlook according to Sujit Choudhry is to look and listen to other cultures around the world.

Sujit Choudhry has changed his vision and approach over the years. He used to get discouraged if the project he worked on didn’t pan out immediately. Now, Choudhry looks at each challenge as an opportunity to go back to the drawing board. This is his key to success.

If money were no object Choudhry would create a center that compiles case law from all over the world and translates them into many languages. This is part of what he sees as his biggest accomplishment, bringing experts from all walks of life together.

Sujit Choudhry’s next stage is to partner with the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance on a few projects.
